Phenolic plastic is one of the oldest thermosetting plastics. It has been formally produced in the United Kingdom and the United States in the early part of this century (1906), and is used to manufacture daily necessities and cast sand molds.

It is a dark brown liquid formed by polycondensation of phenol and formaldehyde under the action of a catalyst, and then dehydrated, cooled, and crushed into a powdery resin.
